My group of friends usually tries to crown her too. However, we don't let one person go alone, because usually they'll get pounced, smoked, or boomed, and then they go down. Instead, all four of us quickly run up and blast her all at once. This way, even if the first person misses their shot she's taken down before she can turn and slash. With auto-shotguns, this can be done with only two people, but if the person goes down nobody gets dragged away by a smoker or pounced in a corner while everybody defends and helps them up.

I saw a witch once on the finale of No Mercy, in the area before you reach the roof/helipad; that part with that giant gaping hole (an elevator shaft I think?) spanning 2 floors. We startled her from the opposite side of the gap, and she ran towards us and fell right into it :)

Your comment on the witch is actually a little miss leading. The best way to pass a witch in VS is actually as a group. If 4 gather together and simply run past her full pelt while running melee past her. The worst case scenario is a good hunter will pin you down and scatter you sideways. Triggering the witch and allowing her to incap a team member.

This situation is crucial to the survival of a team. The downed team mate is LAST priority. Too many people make this mistake and they get the priority reversed on who should be hitting what.

For survivors, zombies and infected are #1 priority. The three survivors should quickly group together to fend off the boomer / smoker / hunter that is now bearing down on them. At this point no-one should attempt to help up the survivor. Fortifying the area is mandatory.

For infected, the next target is the grounded survivor. Killing a single survivor is far more crippling than taking out there team mates. Too often a grounded survivor requires little more than a few hits to kill outright. This should be your focus of the attack, the boomer and smoker should be harassing and separating the 3 remaining survivors while the hunters deal out as much damage as possible to the grounded (read now kill-able) survivor. Especially if someone is carrying a health pack.

In expert, your best (truly) bet to pass a witch is to simply have your entire group run past her. Even in proximity where you will brush past her, as long as no-one shoots / hits her chances are she will have no problems sitting back down. I’m happy to show a demo.
